New York City, I love you for your food

What I look forward to the most when I visit New York City is the food. Here are eight food stops that I highly recommend if you visit the city.

1.) The Coop Restaurant and Bar

Whoever said Buffalo has the best wings clearly hasn't tried The Coop. Located in Flushing, Queens this Korean restaurant uses the most organic source of ingredients. Their chickens are raised from a nearby local farm in a free range environment, restricted from hormones that promote abnormal growth, and don't contain antibiotics, according to their website.

They have a range of Korean dishes, a wide variety of wines and spirits and they have two types of wings: soy garlic for those who don't favor the spice, and, of course, spicy. Fan of both? Why not order half and half? I ordered the soy garlic and it was so crispy, succulent, and full of flavor. These are hands down, the best, so the next time you head to the city, take the 7 train all the way up to Flushing and stop by The Coop.  Bok Bok Buffalo!

2.) La Devozione

There is nothing more yummy than pasta on a cold, rainy day in NYC. Established by Pastificio Di Martino, a family-owned business since 1912 in Italy, Chelsea Market is their first U.S. location, according to their Facebook page.

3.) Los Tacos No. 1

Every time I head to Chelsea Market, there's always a long line outside this food stop. These have got to be the best tacos that I've ever had. Pick your choice of tortilla (corn or flour), then your meat (carne asada, pollo asado, or adobada). All tacos are served with guacamole, cilantro, onions and salsa. Going with a vegetarian? Have them try the nopal plate, which comes with cactus, beans, and cheese.

4.) Boon Chu Thai Street Food

Located in New World Mall in Flushing, this restaurant's portions are so large that it can serve two. I am certain that anything on their menu is delicious, but I highly recommend the Pad Kaprow over rice, which is minced chicken with chili and basil. Don't forget the Pad Thai!

5.) Chinese Korean Dumplings

Flushing, I love you for your dumplings. Located in New World Mall, their dumplings are fresh and they make them right in front of you.

6.) Nuts 4 Nuts

Who needs chestnuts roasting on an open fire when you can go to Nuts 4 Nuts at Central Park? It makes one's chilly visit worth the cold.

7.) Doughnuttery

Yum! This has got to be one of my favorite dessert stops in NYC. The mini doughnuts are freshly fried, hot and coated in the flavor of your choice. Decisions, decisions. You can go for the seasonal flavors, powdered sugar, sugar, or plain just to name a few. If you're going to place an order, I highly recommend that you order at least a dozen because if you order the 6-pack, I can guarantee you'll be wanting more. Say goodbye to that 6-pack! Get it?

8.) Taipan Bakery

Two words: pineapple bun. That's all I have to say. Yum.

Highlighting Indie Bookstores for World Book Day: Always Buying Books

He couldn’t wait to devour the next set of "The Hardy Boys" books and lucky for him, he lived less than a mile away. “I didn't read 'The Hardy Boys,' I became the third brother. I lived them, I loved it,” he said. On the way home, he’d read one book while he carried the rest of the haul stuffed into his shirt. He was so absorbed in the story that he'd sometimes step off a curve, run into a tree or walk two blocks past his house without even realizing. Now, 74, he owns a bookstore of his own called Always Buying Books , in Joplin, the birthplace of Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes. BOB WOLFE'S FAVORITE BOOK: Wolfe grew up in a family of reader...

Cait's Plate: Conwell Coffee Hall...Can we just toast to this aesthetic toast?

Conwell Coffee Hall, located at 6 Hanover Street, is a coffee shop and eatery in Life and Trust, a performing arts center.  photo credit: Cait Malilay From the moment I walked through the revolving door and up those steps, I was immersed back in time to the 1920s. I was greeted by a large art deco painting. photo credit: Cait Malilay I take a look at the menu and see the typical cafe assortment of coffee and teas, but wait...there's a whole section labeled "TOASTS?" Count me in! Being a California native, of course I'm going to order the avocado toast.  My mom orders the crab toast. Now...the beverage of choice. Since it's afternoon, we decide to go with something light, a cappuccino.  We are given a number and to our left, we see the seating area.  In the back there's leather couches and coffee tables. Spread out are rows of tables, so we see that we are going to be sitting pretty close knit with other groups. When we're trying to find a spot to sit, a ge...

A supporter of Bob Avakian (BA) and a supporter Charlie Kirk (CK) agree on one thing: the censorship of books is not ok!

Texas Republican lawmakers are on the hunt to take down books in school libraries that center on race, the LGBTQ+ community and sexual health. In a letter to the executive director of the Texas Association of School Boards, Gov. Greg Abbott urged them to be on the lookout for any books that he described as containing "pornographic or obscene material,” arguing that parents have a right to be concerned. photo credit: REUTERS/Lucas Jackson/File Photo Matt Krause, chair of the Texas House's General Investigating Committee, created a list and in a letter to the Texas Education Agency's deputy commissioner of school programs and school superintendents, encouraged them to keep an eye out for any books that might generate “discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress because of [a student’s] race or sex.” New Kid  by Jerry Craft is one of the 850 books on Matt Krause's list In response , a group of librarians started the grassroots initiative, #F...
