"You can never be overdressed or overeducated." - Oscar Wilde

Cait Malilay is a freelance journalist and TEFL certified teacher. After graduating from College of the Canyons (cum laude) with her associates of arts degrees in English, Journalism, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Social and Behavioral Sciences, she moved from sunny and sandy Southern California to Buffalo, where she continued her studies of English and Journalism at Buffalo State University (summa cum laude), a pioneer school for education since 1871. She received her TEFL certification from Manhattan University, a Lasallian Catholic institution founded in 1853 that follows the values of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of teachers.

While pursuing her studies at College of the Canyons, Cait served as a reporter and entertainment anchor for Canyons News. Combining her love for books, she created her own segment for the show called “What’s Good On The Shelf” where she gave literature recommendations to encourage students to read more.

Following College of the Canyons, Cait joined the two main media organizations at Buffalo State University, The Record, an award-winning student-run news outlet, and WBNY 91.3 FM’s “Let’s Talk, Buffalo.” She also launched her own podcast, "Conversations with Cait," which centers on the arts, culture, and politics. Aside from media, she also worked as an academic writing mentor at the Academic Center For Excellence, where she helped Educational Opportunity Program university students excel in their studies. One of her fondest memories was working as a teaching assistant in the intensive EOP Summer Academy. It was here that she discovered her passion for education.

Cait currently offers K-2 tutoring and college writing services. She has experience working with students of all age levels and academic capabilities.

She is very proud to be in this field, a worldwide initiative of leaders who inspire an appreciation for learning, reading and writing. Her most recent role was an ENL teacher in New York. Cait resides in Stamford, Connecticut.

In the last half decade, Walton was involved in several advocacy groups, but the turning point that inspired her to run for mayor was during the pandemic when she was working as Executive Director for the Fruit Belt Community Land Trust. She couldn’t believe the phone calls she was receiving from the Fruit Belt neighborhood. Community members were reaching out saying that they were struggling with food insecurity and had no running water during the public health crisis. What also sparked Walton’s interest in running for mayor was witnessing the young generation calling for leaders to handle police misconduct during the Black Lives Matter protests. Referring to the incident involving two Buffalo police officers who shoved a 75-year-old man during a George Floyd protest, Walton said that she felt incumbent May...
