Cait Malilay is a journalist-turned-educator and California native. After graduating Cum Laude from College of the Canyons with her associates of arts degrees, she moved from sunny and sandy Southern California to the snowy and cozy Buffalo area to continue her studies of English and Journalism at Buffalo State University, a pioneer school for education since 1871, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She received her TEFL certification from Manhattan University, a Lasallian Catholic institution founded in 1853 that follows the values of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of teachers.
While pursuing her studies at College of the Canyons, Cait served as a reporter and entertainment anchor for the college’s news source, Cougar News, which is now known as Canyons News. Combining her love for books, she created her own segment for the show called “What’s Good On The Shelf” where she gave literature recommendations to encourage students to read more.
Following College of the Canyons, Cait joined the two main media organizations at Buffalo State University, The Record, an award-winning student-run news outlet, and WBNY 91.3 FM’s “Let’s Talk, Buffalo.” Aside from media, she also worked as an academic writing mentor at the Academic Center For Excellence, where she helped Educational Opportunity Program university students excel in their studies. One of her fondest memories was working as a teaching assistant in the intensive EOP Summer Academy. It was here that she discovered her passion for education.
She is very proud to be in this field, a worldwide initiative of leaders who inspire an appreciation for learning, reading and writing. She is an ENL teacher in New York and resides in Stamford, Connecticut.
