My 'This Is Us' predictions! (Part Two)

This Is Us has wrapped up Season 4 and whoa...what a FiNaLe!

*** SPOILERS AHEAD!**

*Just a bit of a note since we're dealing with four time periods (The Big Three's first birthday, present day, the future, and the far future)… I will use the term "the future" as a reference to the flash forward scene that shows the scene with everyone at Kevin's house. The term "far future" is future Jack, Lucy, Hailey, and Hope.

Kate and Toby adopts

"There are two possibilities here. Kate and Toby's relationship doesn't last or Kate dies."
"My prediction is that she'll end up with Marc." - My 'This Is Us' predictions! (Part One)

Fans were relieved to learn that Toby is not cheating with Lady Kryptonite and from this point, it looks like it's safe to say that Kate and Toby's relationship will last (for now). At the end of the Season 4 finale, Kevin, Randall, Uncle Nicky, Beth, Kevin's twins, and Rebecca is shown but where is Kate??

Will Katoby last?

When Toby brings up the idea of Kate and him adopting, at first she is hesitant, but decides, why not? In the "Nine Bucks" episode (S3 ep. 1), future Randall calls Toby to come over to Kevin's house and Toby is shown in bed without Kate! Bringing up my previous post, My 'This Is Us predictions! (Part One), in the "Her" episode (S3 ep. 18), "when Toby says, 'I just talked to Jack and they're on their way,' what can't be assumed is that he is referring to Kate and Jack because it may be a reference to Jack and his expecting wife, Lucy (depending on how many years we're into). Kate, Jack, and his
sister, Hailey!" Perhaps, Kate and Toby's relationship will diminish...

Doing the math, it is impossible for Lucy to exist in the future scene. In the present day, baby Jack just celebrated his 1st birthday, and Kevin just found out he'll be a father. In the future, Kevin's kids are still young and being that a woman is pregnant for nine months, this means that Jack and his future twin cousins are only about two years apart. How many years apart are Hailey and Jack?

"Kevin Pearson, you ARE the father!"

*I just had to make a Maury reference!

He's the father of not one, but two children! Twins...with Madison?!

This is a happy moment for Madison because according to her it's a "miracle" for her to get pregnant. It's wonderful for Kevin too because he always wanted children. Although I am happy for the new soon-to-be parents of twins, there's still hope for Kevin and Sophie! Madison mentions something similar to the words of, I know you wanted a great love story with your high school love, and at the end, Sophie is shown cracking up at a cologne advertisement with Kevin. There is no doubt, she'll reach out to him...

As stated before in my previous This Is Us predictions post, why would the producers put so much emphasis on Kevin and Sophie's relationship?! Remember in the "A Hell of a Week: Part Two" episode (S4 ep. 12) when Sophie discovered the ring in her mother's box of old things? This means Sophie's mother, Claire, didn't think Sophie's fiancé, Grant, was the one!

It is safe to say, however, that Madison and Kevin will get engaged. In the "So Long, Marianne" episode (S4 ep. 9), Kevin says, "My fiancé's got morning sickness at all hours of the day." This only makes sense that it is Madison he is referring to unless...Sophie returns and Sophie gets pregnant too?! It doesn't seem likely because it's a bit much for it to happen with only two seasons left...but with This Is Us's amazing writers, anything is possible!

It is more reasonable to predict that Madison and Kevin will get engaged because they find it only makes sense being that they have children on the way. Perhaps when Sophie reaches out, the engagement will be called off because Kevin knows Sophie is and always will be the love of his life. Additionally, Madison seems like the kind of person who doesn't want to be that woman married to a man who is in love with someone else and wants Kevin to be happy. How will Sophie feel knowing that Kevin is having kids with somebody else? For he and Sophie to be re-united, it will be a relationship in the works.

How can Kevin and Sophie not end up together?

Randall and Kevin's fallout

"Perhaps Randall thinks it'd be best for her to be cared for 24/7 in a facility where she can be monitored and Kevin says otherwise. In the 'Her' episode (S3 ep. 18), future Rebecca is staying at Kevin's house!" - My 'This Is Us' predictions! (Part One)

Yes! My prediction about the fallout was correct! Randall found a clinical trial for Rebecca in St. Louis and Randall suggested that he, Kevin, and Kate will visit her often.

The question is, how long will Kevin and Randall stop talking? In the "Her" episode, Kevin's son called him "Uncle Randall," and told him "he went to go get take out" after realizing they didn't have any food. Randall says "Classic Kevin" jokingly. Based on their conversation and how Beth and Randall are acting, it appears that there is no conflict, so it won't be as long and terrible as when Jack and Nicky's relationship ended.

The "strangers"

The Season 4 finale is called "Strangers: Part Two," so it's no surprise that Cassidy, adult Jack, and Malik were shown again along with new strangers who we later learn are Jack's sister, Hailey -who, in the far future, rushes to the hospital to see Jack and Lucy's newborn, Hope-, and Madison's OB-GYN. There was so much emphasis on his introduction with the horses and his daughter, so in season 5, he might play an even more vital role! Maybe he'll be a sort of present day Dr. K who offers wise words throughout Kevin and Madison's journey. If Kevin and Sophie do end up together, will Madison end up with him?!

The future

I can't help but wonder what the deal is with Toby bringing the sidewalk chalk and Beth bringing Pin the Tail On the Donkey. During the childhood birthday celebrations of The Big Three, they always played Pin the Tail On the Donkey, but what are these activities for?
With so many unanswered questions, I can't wait for the next season!

How to avoid family quarrels during the most wonderful time of the year: Thanksgiving

Ah, Thanksgiving: a time of cheer, laughs, good food and getting together with the family. But for some, it may be daunting to meet with certain members. After all, we’ve all heard of the in-law horror stories and watched the movies: “Monster-in-Law,” (2005) “Meet The Parents,” (2000) and “ Crazy Rich Asians" (2018). "Meet the Parents" (2000) Raffi Bilek, a Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical and the director of the Baltimore Therapy Center , shared his advice on how to avoid family tensions. “These days, I think politics is the hot topic. For the past couple of years, it’s gotten more and more polarized and political issues cause big arguments,” he said. According to a 2022 poll conducted by The New York Times and Siena College , 19% of registered voters said that politics damaged relations with family members or friends.  With the recent release of the dates and locations of the 2024 presidential debates , it's likely to come about in conversation at le

Women In Translation Month: The woman behind Jojo Adventure Books

photo credit: Cait Malilay Emily Shan is a New York City public school teacher, stay-at-home mom and author and creator of Jojo Adventure Books , a bilingual children’s board book series that’s written in Cantonese and English. Launched in September 2022, the series is based on real adventures, both big and small, of her daughter Jojo. “At the same time, I’m creating the resources for ourselves as well as families who want to be able to pass down that Cantonese language to the next generation and hopefully future generations beyond that,” Shan said.  What inspired her to launch this project is that while she was shopping for children's books, she noticed that a lot of them were more catered toward Mandarin-speaking families. Mandarin and Cantonese are tone languages. "Cantonese has six to nine tones, whereas Mandarin has four to five. You’ll see Cantonese written as traditional Chinese characters, whereas Mandarin will typically be written in simplified Chinese characters,&quo
