How relevant will the next episode of 'This Is Us' be?

I love the T.V show This Is Us. It's no doubt that fans are excited to watch the next episode which reveals what would have happened if Jack survived. Now don't get me wrong, but how relevant will season 4 episode 17 be?

*The term "would" will be used a lot

Last Tuesday, fans were left in tears to see the fallout between Randall and Kevin's relationship. When the "New York, New York, New York" (S4 ep. 16) episode ended, viewers were especially excited to see that the next episode, titled "After the Fire" (S4 ep. 17), is about what would or could have happened if Jack survived. Remember, at the end of the episode it's Randall wondering, so this is all from his perspective.

The key phrase here is "what if" which means that it NEVER happened, so how will this episode affect other episodes? There are quite a lot of different outcomes that could have happened if Jack survived. There is no doubt that everything will be twisted and different. Would Jack's alcoholism have turned for the worse in response to the house fire? If this were the case, perhaps it would have eventually led to a divorce between him and Rebecca.

The promo for "After the Fire" reveals that Randall would have met his father at a younger age and it looks like because of Jack. This will have the audience revisit their past feelings of Rebecca when it was revealed in the beginning that she met his father and kept it a secret. Revisiting this episode (shown in the clip below) is so frustrating and heartbreaking.

In the promo of the "Clouds" episode (S4 ep. 15), Randall says, "If it wasn't for me, this whole family would have fallen apart." Hmmm….another "if." One can say this sort of foreshadowed the "After the Fire" episode. As stated before, it is from Randall's perspective, but it is possible there may be a mix of what truly would have happened. What about the other 2/3 of The Big Three?

Kate is also seen with a girl. She was depressed after her father died, but if he lived she probably wouldn't have went to the support group where she met Toby! There would be no Katoby, so she has a baby with someone else or...adopts? The other possibly is that it could be Kevin's kid, though it was revealed to fans that Kevin has a boy in the "Her" (S3 ep. 18) episode. There are so many possibilities!

I hate to be the burden of bad reminders, but the clip below shows the unfortunate reality of what is bound to happen.

Only two more episodes of season 4 and there's no doubt there will be another cliffhanger. Are viewers ready?

NBC's This Is Us airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET!

How to avoid family quarrels during the most wonderful time of the year: Thanksgiving

Ah, Thanksgiving: a time of cheer, laughs, good food and getting together with the family. But for some, it may be daunting to meet with certain members. After all, we’ve all heard of the in-law horror stories and watched the movies: “Monster-in-Law,” (2005) “Meet The Parents,” (2000) and “ Crazy Rich Asians" (2018). "Meet the Parents" (2000) Raffi Bilek, a Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical and the director of the Baltimore Therapy Center , shared his advice on how to avoid family tensions. “These days, I think politics is the hot topic. For the past couple of years, it’s gotten more and more polarized and political issues cause big arguments,” he said. According to a 2022 poll conducted by The New York Times and Siena College , 19% of registered voters said that politics damaged relations with family members or friends.  With the recent release of the dates and locations of the 2024 presidential debates , it's likely to come about in conversation at le

Women In Translation Month: The woman behind Jojo Adventure Books

photo credit: Cait Malilay Emily Shan is a New York City public school teacher, stay-at-home mom and author and creator of Jojo Adventure Books , a bilingual children’s board book series that’s written in Cantonese and English. Launched in September 2022, the series is based on real adventures, both big and small, of her daughter Jojo. “At the same time, I’m creating the resources for ourselves as well as families who want to be able to pass down that Cantonese language to the next generation and hopefully future generations beyond that,” Shan said.  What inspired her to launch this project is that while she was shopping for children's books, she noticed that a lot of them were more catered toward Mandarin-speaking families. Mandarin and Cantonese are tone languages. "Cantonese has six to nine tones, whereas Mandarin has four to five. You’ll see Cantonese written as traditional Chinese characters, whereas Mandarin will typically be written in simplified Chinese characters,&quo
