How relevant will the next episode of 'This Is Us' be?

I love the T.V show This Is Us. It's no doubt that fans are excited to watch the next episode which reveals what would have happened if Jack survived. Now don't get me wrong, but how relevant will season 4 episode 17 be?

*The term "would" will be used a lot

Last Tuesday, fans were left in tears to see the fallout between Randall and Kevin's relationship. When the "New York, New York, New York" (S4 ep. 16) episode ended, viewers were especially excited to see that the next episode, titled "After the Fire" (S4 ep. 17), is about what would or could have happened if Jack survived. Remember, at the end of the episode it's Randall wondering, so this is all from his perspective.

The key phrase here is "what if" which means that it NEVER happened, so how will this episode affect other episodes? There are quite a lot of different outcomes that could have happened if Jack survived. There is no doubt that everything will be twisted and different. Would Jack's alcoholism have turned for the worse in response to the house fire? If this were the case, perhaps it would have eventually led to a divorce between him and Rebecca.

The promo for "After the Fire" reveals that Randall would have met his father at a younger age and it looks like because of Jack. This will have the audience revisit their past feelings of Rebecca when it was revealed in the beginning that she met his father and kept it a secret. Revisiting this episode (shown in the clip below) is so frustrating and heartbreaking.

In the promo of the "Clouds" episode (S4 ep. 15), Randall says, "If it wasn't for me, this whole family would have fallen apart." Hmmm….another "if." One can say this sort of foreshadowed the "After the Fire" episode. As stated before, it is from Randall's perspective, but it is possible there may be a mix of what truly would have happened. What about the other 2/3 of The Big Three?

Kate is also seen with a girl. She was depressed after her father died, but if he lived she probably wouldn't have went to the support group where she met Toby! There would be no Katoby, so she has a baby with someone else or...adopts? The other possibly is that it could be Kevin's kid, though it was revealed to fans that Kevin has a boy in the "Her" (S3 ep. 18) episode. There are so many possibilities!

I hate to be the burden of bad reminders, but the clip below shows the unfortunate reality of what is bound to happen.

Only two more episodes of season 4 and there's no doubt there will be another cliffhanger. Are viewers ready?

NBC's This Is Us airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET!

Cait's Plate: Conwell Coffee Hall...Can we just toast to this aesthetic toast?

Conwell Coffee Hall, located at 6 Hanover Street, is a coffee shop and eatery in Life and Trust, a performing arts center.  photo credit: Cait Malilay From the moment I walked through the revolving door and up those steps, I was immersed back in time to the 1920s. I was greeted by a large art deco painting. photo credit: Cait Malilay I take a look at the menu and see the typical cafe assortment of coffee and teas, but wait...there's a whole section labeled "TOASTS?" Count me in! Being a California native, of course I'm going to order the avocado toast.  My mom orders the crab toast. Now...the beverage of choice. Since it's afternoon, we decide to go with something light, a cappuccino.  We are given a number and to our left, we see the seating area.  In the back there's leather couches and coffee tables. Spread out are rows of tables, so we see that we are going to be sitting pretty close knit with other groups. When we're trying to find a spot to sit, a ge...

Resurrection by Leo Tolstoy (Part I) Review: Knowledge leads to power, but not necessarily justice

photo credit: Cait Malilay "Though hundreds of thousands had done their very best to disfigure the small piece of land on which they were crowded together, by paving the ground with stones, scraping away every vestige of vegetation, cutting down the trees, turning away birds and beasts, and filling the air with the smoke of naphtha and coal, still spring was spring, even in the town." - (Tolstoy 5) "Resurrection" was Leo Tolstoy's last written novel published in 1899. Told in the third person perspective, the book centers on a nobleman named Dmitri Ivanovich Nekhlyudov, whose values are tested when he by chance reconnects with someone from his past, someone he once loved and betrayed. The book's first chapter has strong similarities to that of Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" with its opening passages of a prison and society focused on the fate of a fallen woman.  We are introduced to Maslova, also known as "Katusha," who i...
